Adom FM
Adom FM is a private radio station in Accra, which is owned and run by the media group Multimedia Broadcasting Limited. The station employs Akan as its medium of communication and airs since 2001 under its current name. The station targets lower middle to upper income listeners with a mix of news and current affairs, health programmes, talk and music-based entertaining programming.
According to GeoPoll’s Media Measurement on radio audience statistics for the 1st Quarter of 2017, Adom FM ranks second nationwide with 9.5% audience share, and is also second in shares in the Greater Accra Region (10.50%). It is especially popular in the Central region where it ranks first and reaches to an audience of 16.7%. The audience turns to Adom FM for political news: during the 2016 Election Day, it was the most popular radio channel together with Peace FM.
Adom FM is part of Multimedia Broadcasting Limited Group of which George Kwesi Twum is the majority shareholder with 92.5% shares and Ghana Broadcasting Corporation is minority shareholder with 7.5% shares, according to the Registrar General Department’s official documents. In 2001, George Kwesi Twum acquired Groove FM (R&B Station), converted it into an Akan speaking station, and named it Adom FM.
Multimedia Broadcasting Limited was established in 1994 and is one of Ghana’s biggest private media groups in radio, digital TV & online. The Multimedia Group has six radio stations in the Ashanti Region and Greater Accra Region, six news websites and a satellite television network. In addition to Adom FM, the group owns Joy FM, Luv FM, Asempa FM, Hitz FM, Nhyira FM.
