Osei Kwame
Osei Kwame is a Ghanaian by birth and hails from Agona Wiamoase in the Ashanti region in Ghana. He is popularly known by the name Osei Kwame 'Despite' due to his company’s name, Despite Group, of which he is the Chief Executive Officer. His association with the media started, when he started selling audio cassettes. He has since those early days grown to become a media entrepreneur with a chain of media outlets in the name of Despite Group of Companies and through a daughter company, U2 Company Limited. He also operates companies in the food business.
In 1999, Osei Kwame revived the Ghanaian media landscape with the launch of Peace FM. Peace FM had majority of its content broadcast in Akan, which was a novelty at that time. Osei Kwame could quickly expand his media network to Okay FM, Neat FM, Hello FM and Peace FM Online and grouped them under the umbrella of Despite Group of Companies. Kwame owns 100 percent shares in the company.
In March 2015, Osei Kwame and Ernest Ofori Sarpong formed the U2 Company Limited. The company birthed UTV Ghana, a television station with a substantial audience share in Ghana. Both of them own fifty percent shares apiece in the company. The son of Osei Kwame, Kennedy Osei, is presently the General Manager of the Despite Group of Companies.
Osei Kwame presently has other business interests including Neat and Atona food processing companies, distributors of range of staple food products and diary food products on the Ghanaian market.
He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Best Point Savings and Loans Limited, a wholly owned Ghanaian savings and loans company.
