GhanaWeb

GhanaWeb is a comprehensive resource about Ghana. It’s a website on information, news and entertaining content. The portal was launched in 1992 by Akoto Francis. In year 1999 the website renamed as GhanaWeb, formerly it was GhanaHomePage. The owning company of the website is Bellaart Investments B.V., a privately owned company that is operating from The Netherlands.

In the last decade, GhanaWeb has risen in Ghana. Initially, the webpage consisted of some pages with information about Ghana but it quickly has evolved and expanded into a platform which is used by thousands of contributor to publish their content.

Since 2008, the websites ranks high – at position 4 - at the Alexa ranking for most visited websites in Ghana. It is today, the most popular news website in the country. In a survey by Goodman AMC, GhanaWeb was mentioned as a media news sources that Ghanaians would trust to provide first-hand and reliable information in the 2016 presidential election. It held a trust percentage of 3% and ranked seventh among news websites.

According to GhanaWeb’s own statements, visitors are predominantly Ghanaian, many of them living in the diaspora in USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands and many other countries; with a proclaimed high level of loyalty. As it is a foreign company, a company profile could not be obtained at the Registrar General’s Department.

GhanaWeb is owned by a company that is based in The Netherlands. A company profile could be purchased at the Dutch companies' registrar, but it could not be established, whether GhanaWeb is currently run by AfricaWeb Publishing B.V. or GhanaWeb B.V. However, the owning investment company is Bellaart Investments B.V., which is owned by Robert Bellaart.
