Dr. Kwabena Duffuor

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a self-made millionaire, has an estimated net worth of $680 million. According to OMG Voice, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor is therefore the 10th richest person in Ghana. He is best known for his position in the Mills government (NDC) as the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning of the Republic of Ghana, from 2009 to 2013. In 2016, he was ranked as the 24th most influential person in Ghana, recognizing personalities whose works have positively impacted society and their community - as voted by the general public. Dr. Duffuor is the founder and owner of Excellence in the Broadcasting (EIB) Network. His investment interests in the media sector started with the newspaper ‘Daily Heritage’. He later on founded EIB and proceeded to acquire Live FM, Starr FM, and more.

Dr. Duffuor is also founder, president, and adviser to his company, House of Duffuor Assets (HODA) Holdings, which houses over 15 companies across several industries - including real estate, insurance, banking, and more. Star Assurance, one of Ghana’s largest insurance companies, is one of them. As an economist, he worked for a number of banks (Governor of the Bank of Ghana 1997 -2001) and briefly with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as an Economist in the African Department. His largest holding is in UniBank, one of the largest banks in Ghana, which caters primarily to high and low net worth clients.

Dr. Duffuor also founded the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), a non-profit think-tank devoted to the provision of economic policy advice, after he exhibited grave concern about the fiscal policy decisions and management of Ghana’s public finances.

Dr. Duffuor is married and has five children. Two of his sons, Kofi and Kwabena, play key roles in the family business. Kofi is the Managing Director of Star Assurance, while Kwabena is the Chief Operating Officer at UniBank. Akosua Duffour and Boatemaa Panin Duffour also play major roles at UniCredit, while Boatemaa Kakra Duffour-Nyarko also serves on the board of Star-Life Assurance.
