The Multimedia Group is a media group in Ghana. It was established in 1994 and has six radio stations, three news websites and a satellite television network. The group has won several local and international awards for its leadership in information communication in Ghana and the world. The Multimedia Group commenced with Joy FM.
Multimedia Group now owns six radio stations in the Ashanti Region and Greater Accra Region. The stations are: Joy FM, Luv FM, Nhyira FM, Asempa FM, Hitz FM, Adom FM. The group operates Multi TV, a satellite television station with several channels. Both the TV channel and the radio stations show and broadcast diverse programs from telenovelas to music, infotainment, entertainment, news and current affairs amongst others. According to information on the National Communications Authority website, Multimedia Broadcasting Limited is the company that operates Joy FM. However, the company profile at the Registrar General’s Department had Joy FM registered to a company name Multimesia Broadcasting Limited.
Additionally, even though the company now refers to itself as the Multimedia Group, the Registrar General’s Department could not give as any documentation to support that name. According to their website, they operate a number of outlets amongst them Adom TV, Nhyira FM, Asempa FM, Adom FM. According to the NCA, however, Adom TV are Adom FM are registered to Aero Communications Ltd.; Asempa FM to Bell Communications Ltd.; Nhyira FM to Nhyira Media Ltd. The relationship between Aero Communications Ltd., Bell Communications Ltd., Nhyira Media Ltd. and Multimedia Broadcasting Ltd. could not be established.
The Group has successfully built its network of media platforms into national and internationally recognized brands.
Multimedia Group Limited (MGL) has George Kwesi Twum as the majority shareholder with 72.5% shares whilst Ghana Broadcasting Corporation represented by David Anaglate owns 7.5% shares. George Kwesi Tsum is the founder, CEO, and director of the company which was founded with a vision to create the most influential and credible media brand in Ghana. Arguably, this is so. As a radio station that is noted for its brand and talented staff, Joy FM’s dominance on the landscape throughout the years remains unquestionable.
The Multimedia Broadcasting Limited brought to the people of Accra a new radio station with a new vibe and a whole new mentality from what they had been used to for many years on GBC. The commencement of operations begun with one radio station, Joy FM. Joy FM Ghana's first private and English-speaking private radio station, established as the Country's most authoritative news and entertainment hub. Joy 99.7FM as the first private radio station licensed in Ghana. George Kwesi Twum is not known to own other significant business interests apart from the Multimedia Group Limited.
