Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) is the oldest state-owned broadcaster in Ghana - it has always been under the control of the government of the day, from the colonial master through the military regime to democratically elected governments.

GBC is a state-owned media and registered with the State Enterprises Commission, Ghana (SECG). The SECG as part of its mandate has supervisory responsibility over all state owned enterprises including GBC.

GBC started with a radio station called Radio "ZOY". The broadcast service was under the control of the British government, while they were the colonial masters. Between 1946 and 1953, the Organization was administered by the Public Relation Department, now the Information Services Department. By 1953, the Gold Coast Broadcasting System (GCBS) was birthed and run broadcasting services in four local languages across the country. On attainment of independence in 1957, GCBS was renamed and given its present name Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC).
