The Ghanaian Times

Ghanaian Times newspaper is one of the state-owned newspapers apart from Daily Graphic. The circulation of the newspaper is nationwide. Issues reported in the newspaper are often the subject of daily newspaper reviews and discussions on most media outlets and social media.

Based on Geopoll’s audience research for the first quarter in 2017, The Ghanaian Times is the third popular: the mobile survey platform pegs its audience share at 13.8%, with a readership of 872,000. A 2003 poll placed The Ghanaian Times seventh in terms of trust and credibility (3.1%).

The Ghanaian Times covers politics, business, education, women, personality profiles, international politics, sports, environment among others. Its readership profile is like the Daily Graphic’s, it includes politicians, chief executives, diplomats, researchers, traditional authorities.

Ghanaian Times is run by the publisher The New Times Corporation (NTC), which is registered as a state-owned Enterprise. This means that the State Enterprises Commission has an oversight responsibility over the management. The New Times Corporation (NTC), formerly known as The Guinea Press Limited, was established by President Kwame Nkrumah, in 1957. It used to be a printing house for his political party – The Convention People’s Party (CPP).

After Nukrumah was overthrown in 1966, The Guinea Press was taken over as a state property by NLCD (National Liberation Council Decree) 130 of 1968. In 1971, The Guinea Press was transformed into The New Times Corporation by an Instrument of Incorporation – Act 363, 1971, which also repealed The National Newspapers (Guinea Press Limited – Interim Reconstitution Decree) which acquired it as state property. That Act was given further recognition by the provision of PNDC Law 42.
