Joy News
Joy News is one of the Multi TV satellite channels that broadcast on digital television. The Multi TV channel is a free to air multiple channel digital-direct to home TV service, which belongs to the indigenous Ghanaian Company Multimedia Broadcasting Company Limited. Other channels on Multi TV are Adom TV and Joy Prime.
Joy News has 7.7% audience share among all TV channels in the country, according to GeoPoll, a mobile survey platform (January – March 2017). The report also shows that the station has a nationwide penetration reach of 73%.
Joy News shows current affairs programmes, news bulletins, movies and sports programmes. In the run-up to the December polls in Ghana, a survey conducted by Goodman AMC (a research consulting firm), shows that Joy News’ programme, News File, was the most trusted source of information by respondents during the period.
Joy News is owned by the Multimedia Broadcasting Company Limited of which Mr. Kwasi Twum is the majority shareholder (92.5%) while the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) owns 7.5% of the remaining shares. Twum served as an Executive Chairman of Ridgecrest Services Ltd. He is an Executive Council Member of the Ghana Employers’ Association (GEA) and a Member of the Board of SOS Children’s Villages, Ghana. GBC is wholly owned by the government of Ghana.
The Multimedia Broadcasting Company Limited started its operation in 1995 with a radio station called Joy FM broadcasting from Accra. Over the past two decades, the Multimedia Broadcasting Company Limited has grown to become a conglomerate operating other media outlets such as Adom FM, Hitz FM, Asempa FM, Nhyira FM, Luv FM, myjoyonline, adomonline.com etc.
