Citi FM
Citi FM is a private radio station based in Accra-Ghana, which commenced commercial broadcasting in November 2004. The station employs English as its medium of communication and offers a blend of adult contemporary music, news, and talk programmes. The station has a dominant presence in Greater Accra, Eastern, Central and parts of Volta and Western Regions in Ghana and aims a global reach as online radio on www.citifmonline.com.
Citi FM emerged as the third most popular station (4.72%) in GeoPoll’s 2017 first quarter survey on radio stations’ audience share nationwide - after Peace FM and Adom FM. In a survey by Goodman AMC, Citi FM was mentioned as a media news sources that Ghanaians would trust the most to provide first-hand and reliable information in the 2016 presidential election. Its program Election Forensics would hold a trust percentage of 30% and ranked first among radio programs. Over the last years, Citi FM’s morning show became the one that many have embraced as their preferred in the morning. The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) deservedly gave the joint award for best radio show to Bernard Avle at Citi Breakfast and Joy FM’s Drive. In 2006, the station was also adjudged the New Radio Station of the year at the BBC Africa Radio Awards for West Africa in August 2016.
Citi FM‘s biggest competitor – especially in the middle class market segment – is Joy FM. Citi FM launched with a number of poached staff from the Joy stable, copied the Joy programme format, and thus created discomfort for Joy FM. It now ranks just before Joy FM in the nationwide comparison.
The station is owned by Omni Media Company Limited of which Nik Amarteifio is the founder and chairman, based on news reports and his Linkedin profile. There was no official company profile available at the Registrar general, so that the situation of shareholders remains in transparent.
Amarteifio is seasoned entrepreneur who has been involved in many domestic and international industries like mining, real estate, telecommunication, oil and gas. Samuel Atta-Mensah is the Chief Executive Officer of Omni Media Company Limited. He is a Ghanaian media personality and business man.
